All metals - particularly silver - oxidise during the course of time. The more aggressive the environment is and the cleaning methods used, the quicker metals will react, i.e. oxidise. We all know grandmother’s method, don’t we? Hot water, aluminium foil and salt or vinegar. ...once a very effective way to deoxidise silverware, but not without problems for the environment as this corrosive method allows traces of silver and aluminium to enter the sewage system. The latest EU-regulations forbid the use of corrosive deoxidising methods (unless the drained water is filtered!). And abrasive cleaning pastes and creams are harmful to both silverware and the environment. Other products even carry health warnings and can cause cancer. These are the reasons that more and more silver cleaning products are ceasing to be produced.
«Desox 2000» is the first «Wellness-Bath» for silverware and comprises a low alkali soapy bath which is automatically held at a temperature of 45°C/115°F. This saves both on electricity and on chemicals. 170g/6oz. soap-powder is sufficient for an entire working day regardless of the quantity being treated. The items rest in the warm soapy water for 1 - 3 minutes during which they gently regain their original colour. The oxidation disappears and the pieces are left with a water-repellent protective coating. This new mild method is thanks to a newly designed contact plate with a special alloy for the electrolysis rather than a contact plate of pure aluminium. (Patents pending)
